Bexar
Metropolitan (BexarMet), San Antonio’s second largest
water utility company, selected S&C to increase awareness
and create a conservation program to reach out to its multiple
commercial as well as residential clients. S&C conducted
focus group research, then executed a baseline research telephone
interview to determine attitudes and awareness on water and
conservation issues with both BexarMet and San Antonio Water
System customers. This yielded significant findings.
As a result, S&C developed and implemented communication
strategies needed to increase conservation awareness. This
included creating an interactive course with a local middle
school science class to bring students to the water agency
to learn how water is extracted, treated, and distributed
through an intricate distribution system. A long term action
plan was established that included outreach programs and new
literature to promote positive attitudes among Bexar Met customers.
S&C enhanced their image and provided vital media relations
and community relations support for the planned acquisition
of other water utilities. This led to increased customer
satisfaction
and enhanced employee morale.
