The
San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) is one of the nation’s
oldest & largest public housing authorities. SAHA selected
S&C to raise community awareness and generate positive
media coverage.
S&C
created a customized public relations educational seminar
and workshop for all managers of the authority on basic skills
they could use on a daily basis. We then provided one-on-one
customized media coaching and training for senior management.
This was instrumental in preparing the agency to effectively
deal with the media and the public during a surge of scandals
and controversy.
S&C managed dozens of crises stemming from negative news
articles, lawsuits, activists’ demonstrations, previous
administration scandals to several fires at SAHA housing
complexes.
As a result, positive media coverage increased by 500 percent
during the first year, and another 33 percent in the second
year. In the following years, S&C developed numerous public
outreach programs in English and Spanish to enhance the image
of this organization. Agency morale increased, and the public’s
perception of SAHA became more positive, leading to increased
cooperation from city, state and federal agencies that interfaced,
and/or regulated SAHA.
